Body of infant found in toilet of Cuban restaurant in New York

The lifeless body of a newborn baby was discovered Monday morning in the bathroom of a Cuban restaurant in New York.

The tragic discovery occurred shortly before 10 a.m. at Sophie’s Cuban Cuisine, located on Fulton Street in Lower Manhattan, as reported by US media. Authorities suspect a woman gave birth in the restaurant’s restroom Sunday night. The infant’s body was not found until the morning, when an employee arrived to prepare for the establishment’s opening at 10:30 a.m.

Police responded to a 911 call and found the baby unconscious when they arrived. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death, but the age and sex of the newborn have not been released.

Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage from the area to identify people who were present in the restaurant at the estimated time of the incident. At this time, no arrests have been made and no further details have been released.

A woman identifying herself as the assistant manager of Sophie’s mentioned that police had allowed the restaurant to continue operating. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
