Ponoka man faces identity theft charges and faces trial

On December 13, 2023, Ponoka and Smoky Lake RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence on 54th Street and 54th Avenue in Ponoka.

Following the search, agents claim to have located:

  • credit cards made
  • printers with blank checks loaded
  • Documents containing personal information about other people, including driver’s licenses
  • Stolen goods
  • A firearm with an altered serial number and other weapons.

Ponoka resident Greg Thomas Allen was charged with:

  • Fraud
  • Identity theft
  • Identity fraud
  • Using an ID in someone else’s name
  • Falsification
  • Trafficking or possession of a false document
  • Possess a prohibited firearm
  • Possess a prohibited weapon
  • Reckless use of weapon
  • Falsifying the serial number of a firearm,
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • Possession of instruments to copy a credit card.

“One person can cause a lot of harm to a community,” said Sgt. Tyler Epp of the Ponoka RCMP Detachment following the arrest. “Mr. Allen is a repeat offender who, in this case, has claimed numerous victims. The investigation continues as we continue to locate the victims.
