When an accused shoplifter ran out a store’s “fire exit with a bag of loot,” he headed toward a fleeing car in the parking lot, California police said.

As the suspect sprints toward the moving car, holding a large black bag, the driver’s side rear door closes and the car speeds away, video shared by the Upland Police Department in an article in the September 24 on X, formerly known as Twitter, shows.

“The driver of the fleeing car saw the police car and jumped on his partner,” police said.

The suspect looks around the parking lot for a moment, then throws the bag on the ground, the video shows.

He casually walks away but rushes as the lights of a police car approach.

After chasing him through the parking lot, officers arrested the suspect, police said.

The fleeing car, however, managed to elude police “(for the time being),” the department said.

Police said they recovered the stolen merchandise, worth nearly $2,000.

The suspect, on parole for a separate incident, was booked on charges of “robbery, organized retail theft, conspiracy and placed on parole,” according to police.

Upland is about a 40-mile drive east of Los Angeles.
