Probation report requested by Tipperary court for terminally ill woman caught shoplifting

A terminally ill woman has had her shoplifting case adjourned until January for a probation report at Nenagh District Court.

Mary Jackson (52), of 1 O’Donnell House, Lower Gerald Griffin Street, Limerick is accused of stealing three jackets worth €517 from the Lisa Baker boutique in Nenagh on April 8. 2023 contrary to section 4 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud) Act 2001.

Sergeant Regina McCarthy told the court that on the day of the incident the accused entered the store, took the three pink jackets and left without attempting to pay. The incident was captured on video surveillance.

The court heard no good was recovered And a co-accused in this case had already appeared in court.

Sgt McCarthy said the defendant had 210 previous convictions.

Acting for the defendant, barrister Elizabeth McKeever said her client was in very poor health and asked For the judge to request a probation report.

Judge Fiona Brennan adjourned the case until January 2025.
