TPD to hold public training sessions on cyber fraud

TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Topeka Police Department (TPD) will host public training sessions to learn about common scams, cybercrime and how to protect yourself this October.

The TPD Financial Crimes Unit will make one-hour presentations followed by a 30-minute question and answer session. Sessions will be open to the public and held in person. No registration is required to attend.

“Cybercrimes are on the rise across the country and the Topeka Police Department is committed to equipping our community with the knowledge necessary to avoid becoming a victim,” said TPD Acting Chief Jamey Haltom. “I encourage everyone to attend and find out how we can work together to prevent these crimes in the capital. »

Cyberfraud awareness sessions will take place:

  • 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at Melvin Auditorium 101C at the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library, 1515 SW 10th Street.

  • 6-7:30 p.m., Oct. 16, at Brewster Place Event Center, 900 SW 31st Street.

  • 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Oakland Community Center, 801 NE Poplar Street.

The Topeka Police Department is proud to present this Cybercrime Awareness Training.
