Two people arrested following theft and police search

The first call took place early Monday morning

An early Monday morning call from Humptulips for a theft resulted in two arrests; one for theft and a second for complicity.

The initial call came in at 6:18 a.m. from the area of CD Hanson Road, said Undersheriff Kevin Schrader of the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office.

“We received a call about a theft that took place there,” Schrader said in a telephone interview. “The subject stated that her ex-boyfriend assaulted her and stole her vehicle. He was believed to be armed with a hunting rifle.

A quick search made it possible to locate the vehicle of the suspect, a 36-year-old man, near his residence. Officers contacted a woman in a trailer at the residence, who told officers the suspect was not present, Schrader said. After searching the suspect’s trailer, officers used dogs and drones to sweep the woods in the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.

Sheriff’s deputies then searched the woman’s trailer, locating the suspect and arresting him. The suspect and the woman, a 65-year-old Humptulips woman, were taken into custody, charged with complicity to a crime.

No gun was ever found, Schrader said, and both the suspect and the woman deny there ever was one. Both were arrested without incident and taken to the county jail, Schrader said.
