West Peoria released pretrial while awaiting trial on robbery charge

UPDATE (3:30 p.m.) — A West Peoria man faces up to 15 years in prison for allegedly robbing a Farmington Road gas station.

Jaylin L. Howard-Bradley, 22, appeared in Peoria County Circuit Court on the single charge of aggravated robbery stemming from the incident Saturday evening at the Circle K gas station.

According to court records, Howard-Bradley approached the employee from behind, put something on his back, then took the money from the register before running away.

His attorney with the Peoria County Public Defender’s Office argued for his release, saying he had no criminal record and had a long history of holding down a job to support his family.

And Judge Mark Gilles agreed, saying that while he found the allegations alarming, it was unclear whether a gun had actually been used. The judge allowed him to be free pending the outcome of his case, under several conditions, including a curfew and wearing a GPS monitor.

He will next appear in court in late October for arraignment, but it is likely a grand jury will hear the case before then.
