Long Branch woman charged with stealing $80,000 from employer’s credit card


FREEHOLD, NJ — A 37-year-old Long Branch woman has been accused of stealing more than $80,000 from her former employer by using a company-issued credit card for personal purchases over a five-year period , said Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago. announced Monday.

Nadine Hurd, who worked as a customer service and inventory manager for a Wall Township manufacturing company, allegedly used the business credit card to purchase personal items from more than 50 retailers. Items included clothing, jewelry, patio furniture, garden supplies and a complete kitchen renovation of the home, including new appliances.

Hurd was charged with second-degree theft by unlawful taking. A joint investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Wall Township Police Department found the thefts occurred between 2018 and 2023, after analyzing financial records.

Hurd turned herself in on Friday, September 27 and was released on summons. She awaits future court proceedings in Monmouth County Superior Court.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Kristen Anastos of the Financial Crimes and Special Prosecutions Unit. Hurd is represented by attorney William Wachowski of Freehold.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

  • Three juveniles arrested for armed carjacking in Gaithersburg

    GAITHERSBURG, Md. — Montgomery County Police arrested three young men in connection with an armed carjacking that occurred Friday, Sept. 27, 2024, in the 13700 block of Colgate Way. The suspects, a 17-year-old and two 15-year-olds, were arrested the following day.

    Officers from the 3rd district responded to the scene around 9:45 p.m. after being informed of an armed carjacking. Investigators revealed that the suspects physically assaulted the victim as she got out of her vehicle in a parking lot. The suspects stole his car keys and cell phone before fleeing in his vehicle. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

    On Saturday, September 28, police located the hijacked Lexus at a 7-Eleven on Lockwood Drive, where they arrested the three suspects after they exited the vehicle.

    The 17-year-old suspect was charged as an adult with armed carjacking and related offenses and was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit. The two 15-year-olds were transferred to a juvenile detention center and face the same charges. All three suspects are being held without bail.

  • Body of unidentified man found near West 79th Street

    MANHATTAN, N.Y. — An unidentified man was found dead in the water near West 79th Street and Riverside Drive Monday morning, according to police.

    Officers responded to a 911 call around 7:20 a.m. and found the unresponsive man floating in the water. Emergency responders from the NYPD Harbor Unit and Emergency Services Unit recovered the body from the water.

    Emergency medical services personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene. The cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner.

    Police have not yet identified the deceased and the investigation continues.

  • Glen Burnie man arrested for drunk driving and handgun violation

    GLEN BURNIE, Md. — A 32-year-old man was arrested early Sunday morning after he was found driving under the influence and in possession of a handgun, according to local authorities.

    At approximately 3:17 a.m. on September 29, 2024, an officer saw a white 2008 Cadillac running a red light at the intersection of Ritchie Highway and Ordnance Road. The driver, identified as Raymond Emile Nelson of Glen Burnie, stopped at a nearby gas station and entered the business. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer noticed a black Walther 9mm semi-automatic pistol in plain view on the center console.

    Nelson was found to be under the influence and was arrested for drunk driving. He also faces charges for carrying a firearm while under the influence.

    The investigation is ongoing.
