Traffic stop in N. Charleston leads to man’s arrest on drug and gun charges

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – North Charleston Police say a search during a traffic stop landed a man behind bars on multiple charges.

Devon Simmons, 45, faces charges including possession of a firearm by a convicted violent felon, illegal possession of a handgun and two drug charges, according to jail records .

Police arrested Simmons Friday evening near I-26 after seeing his car go through a red light before turning onto Ashley River Road, an incident report states.

Officers searched the car and its driver, identified as Simmons, and found a bag of marijuana, a bag containing a white powder tested to be cocaine, pills suspected to be ecstasy and a gun that was reported stolen in April. the report says.

He was being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
