Rep. Elissa Slotkin launches initiative for seniors in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Michigan Democratic Rep. and Senate candidate Elissa Slotkin held a rally in Grand Rapids Monday, launching the “Seniors for Slotkin” initiative.

The movement focuses on the need to protect older adults, not only in our state but across the country.

“Michigan tends to be a slightly older state,” Rep. Elissa Slotkin said. “We have more citizens here on Medicare and Social Security than in a lot of other states, so this is a really important issue for a lot of people.”

Slotkin spoke to nearly 100 of his older supporters about the help they need.

Specifically, she spoke about the importance of maintaining programs such as Medicare and Social Security while keeping prescription drug costs low.

The Senate hopeful also stressed the importance of having bipartisan support on issues related to certain senior issues.

“There’s a lot of interest in tying profits to inflation,” Slotkin said. “We have seniors whose Social Security checks don’t go as far as they did five years ago.”

Slotkin is expected to make another trip to Grand Rapids in the coming weeks, with the election just 36 days away.
