Police lose 23 weapons, without knowing where they went

SEATTLE (WKRC) – A police department lost nearly two dozen guns and doesn’t know where they went.

Seattle police conducted an internal audit of missing guns after nearly two dozen weapons were lost in eight years, according to the New York Post.

“We are going to do our best to do better,” said Patrick Michaud, a spokesperson for the ministry, according to the New York Post. “Until we find them, we will continue to look for them.”

The 23 missing firearms belonged to training units, the department’s shooting range or individual officers. Some weapons have disappeared since 2017.

Police said they entered the gun’s serial numbers into the National Crime Information Center to be informed if the firearms were found elsewhere.

A gun was grabbed in 2019 by a teenager as he waltzed out the door of a training building with an officer’s handgun, according to the New York Post. In another incident, officers stored firearms in a metal cabinet designed to store office supplies.
