Political activist Morara Kebaso was arrested at her offices in Kahawa Sukari under unclear circumstances.

During the arrest, electronic devices including phones and laptops were seized.

His lawyer, Pareno Solonka, said Kebaso had been held incommunicado since his arrest, with police saying they were following “orders from above”.

Initially, Kebaso was taken to the regional police headquarters in Nairobi, with reports circulating that he was being transferred to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Kiambu.

However, his lawyer denied the allegations, saying the vocal activist is still at regional police headquarters.

“Morara is still at the regional police headquarters in Nairobi. Ignore all the rumors that he has been transferred!” Solonka said in a video shared on social platform X.

Solonka also said that officers at the entrance had received explicit instructions from higher authorities not to allow any lawyers or media personnel to see the activist.

The reasons for Kebaso’s arrest are unclear, but he said he was followed by government agents in late August.

Kebaso has become a vocal critic of President William Ruto, saying many of his initiatives have either stalled or have yet to be launched.

He stressed the importance of his work in holding the government accountable, saying he is not worried about his own safety because it would harm his efforts.

“If I worry too much, I won’t be able to continue my work,” he remarked.

“What I do is extremely risky. I have experienced incidents where my phone has been tracked and vehicles with untraceable license plates have been seen near my home.”
