Jefferson County Juvenile Detention Center Closing for Renovation

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – The Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice is temporarily closing its Jefferson County regional site in Louisville for renovations.

State officials say the $7.5 million project will help increase the facility’s capacity to safely house minors.

Boys detained for minor offenses will be transferred to the Campbell Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Newport. High-level offenders will be housed in facilities in Adair, Fayette and Warren counties.

Construction is expected to begin around October 15 and be completed in 2026.
