State Fair of Texas updates weapons policy, prohibits fairgoers from carrying firearms

State Fair of Texas updates weapons policy, prohibits fairgoers from carrying firearms

DALLAS, Texas (KWTX) – The State Fair of Texas has updated their weapons policy to prohibit fairgoers from carrying all firearms, including concealed carry and open carry firearms anywhere on the fairgrounds.

The update comes after three people were injured in a shooting at the fair last year.

According to their website, the only exception to the rule will be licensed peace officers with appropriate credentials.

Other prohibited weapons include knives with blades over 5.5 inches long, clubs, explosive devices, ammunition, chemical dispensing devices, replicas or hoaxes.

“Every year, the State Fair of Texas has an ongoing safety and security assessment, adding and adjusting security measures to ensure a safe environment for all fairgoers, employees, and vendors,” the State Fair of Texas said on their website. “For us to continue offering a safe event for all, we feel this is an important measure to implement.”

Additionally, the State Fair of Texas references other events like the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, and Rodeo Austin that follows a similar weapons policy.

The State Fair of Texas will also have a new bag policy that limits bags to 9x10x12 or smaller.
