Texas State Fair Updates Gun Policy, Bans Attendees From Carrying Firearms

DALLAS, Texas (KWTX) – The State Fair of Texas has updated its weapons policy to prohibit attendees from carrying all firearms, including concealed and open carry firearms, anywhere on the fairgrounds.

The update comes after three people were injured in a shooting at the fair last year.

According to their website, the only exception to the rule will be licensed peace officers with the appropriate qualifications.

Other prohibited weapons include knives with blades longer than 5.5 inches, clubs, explosive devices, ammunition, chemical dispensers, replicas or hoaxes.

“Each year, the State Fair of Texas conducts an ongoing safety and security assessment, adding and adjusting safety measures to ensure a safe environment for all attendees, employees and vendors,” the State Fair of Texas said on its website. “In order for us to continue to provide a safe event for all, we believe this is an important step to take.”

Additionally, the State Fair of Texas refers to other events such as the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, and the Rodeo Austin that follow a similar gun policy.

The State Fair of Texas will also have a new bag policy that limits bags to 9x10x12 or smaller.
