Suspected Shoplifter Shot Dead By Off-Duty Cop At Texas City Bucee’s

An alleged shoplifting incident at a Bucee’s in Texas City turned into a shooting involving an off-duty police officer late Friday night.

The incident took place around 10:50 p.m. at Bucee’s on Holland Road.

According to Texas City Police Chief Landis Cravens, the off-duty officer attempted to arrest the suspect, but when he resisted, the officer attempted to use a Taser.

The suspect, identified by authorities as a 23-year-old man, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. It is not yet known whether the suspect was armed during the altercation.

The Texas Rangers and the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating the incident. The identity of the officer has not been released.
