Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Reports Arson, Theft Incidents

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — Stafford County Sheriff David “DP” Decatur’s office has released details of significant incidents from its daily report dated August 7, 2024.

In a reported arson incident on August 6 at 8:00 a.m., Deputy SM Eastman and Fire Marshal DM Pappas were called to Paynes Lane, where a house under construction was vandalized.

The site showed signs of burning and evidence of an unidentified liquid being poured onto the ground, prompting an investigation into deliberate damage.

Additionally, a theft was reported at the CVS at 450 Chatham Heights Road that same day at 10:53 a.m. Deputy Sheriff DR Ludolph responded to the scene where a male suspect was apprehended after filling his backpack with medication.

Known for previous shoplifting incidents, the suspect was arrested and is now being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bail, facing a new warrant for shoplifting.

These incidents highlight the ongoing challenges of maintaining public safety and the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office’s ongoing efforts to combat criminal activity within the community.

  • Man shot in Baltimore seriously injured

    BALTIMORE, Maryland – A shooting in Baltimore’s West End has left a 31-year-old man in critical condition, prompting an urgent investigation. The incident occurred on August 6, 2024, at approximately 3:29 p.m., in the 1700 block of North Carey Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.

    The victim was transported by medics to a nearby hospital and is currently in critical condition. Due to the severity of his injuries, the case is being investigated by homicide detectives.

  • Bearman accused of threatening to bomb Christiana Mall

    NEWARK, DE — Delaware State Police have arrested Devin Cunningham, 20, of Bear, Delaware, on charges of making terrorist threats following a fake bomb threat at the Christiana Mall.

    The incident occurred on August 3 at approximately 7:45 p.m. Police officers rushed to the mall located at 750 Mall Road in Newark after receiving a report of a bomb threat. Security personnel reported that Cunningham had explicitly threatened to bring a bomb into the mall, destroy property, and injure those present.

    Initial investigations showed that Cunningham was denied entry into the country for refusing to remove a black ski mask, leading to a heated exchange with security and an outburst of threats. He left the scene in a gray sedan before authorities could arrest him.

    After identifying Cunningham through further investigative efforts, officers obtained a warrant for his arrest. He surrendered to Troop 2 the next day, was charged, arraigned in Peace Court 11, and released on $2,000 unsecured bail.

  • Millsboro man arrested on drug charges after being found passed out outside church

    MILLSBORO, FROM — Delaware State Police arrested Brent Ward, 44, of Millsboro, on Monday on multiple felony drug charges.

    The arrest occurred on August 5 at approximately 2:41 p.m. while members of the Sussex County Governor’s Special Squad were patrolling the Oak Orchard neighborhood of Millsboro. Detectives noticed Ward, who appeared unconscious, outside God’s House of Deliverance Church at 31507 Oak Orchard Road.

    After Ward woke up, investigators conducted a consensual search and discovered illegal substances on his person. The items seized included 1.92 grams of crack cocaine, 2.71 grams of powder cocaine, 38 counterfeit pills and 0.175 grams of heroin.

    Ward was then taken to Troop 4 and charged with three counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver a counterfeit controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arraigned in Peace Court 2 and released on his own recognizance.
