AG James seeks input for New York’s children’s online safety laws

Attorney General Letitia James announced two advanced notices of proposed rulemaking to implement New York’s new children’s online safety laws, inviting public input over the next 60 days. The laws aim to protect minors from addictive social media features and data exploitation.

Sponsored by Sen. Andrew Gounardes and Assemblymember Nily Rozic, the laws direct the AG’s office to draft rules requiring parental consent for algorithm use on minors and restricting data collection.

James emphasized the urgent need for these protections amid a youth mental health crisis. Stakeholders can submit feedback to influence the rulemaking process.

These measures build on James’ efforts to hold Big Tech accountable and safeguard young New Yorkers online.
