MUDA case: CM responds to governor’s formal notice and declares having received a response

Bangalore, Aug 2 (IANS): Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday responded to a question on a notice issued to him by the Governor and said a response had been given by the ministers.

Governor Gehlot had issued a notice to CM Siddaramaiah regarding alleged irregularities in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority, asking why consent to prosecution should not be given against him.

Addressing the media after participating in the inaugural ceremony of ’13th Bengaluru India Nano’, an event on nanotechnology in Bengaluru, CM Siddaramaiah made his first statement on the advisory.

He said the ministers had responded to the formal notice sent to him.

“The response was prepared by the Cabinet and it was decided to advise the Governor to withdraw the notice given to the Chief Minister and dismiss the complaint filed by Mr Abraham,” he said.

The Karnataka government on Thursday urged the governor to withdraw the notice and dismiss the petition of social activist TJ Abraham.

Addressing a press conference at Vidhana Soudha, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said, “The cabinet strongly urges the honourable governor to withdraw the notice to CM Siddaramaiah and also reject the petition of TJ Abraham. We make this appeal with all humility. I want to inform the people of the state that this is a murder of democracy and the Constitution.”

The notice of demand issued to Siddaramaiah on July 26 stated: “On consideration of the application for prosecution against you, it appears that the allegations made against you are of a serious nature and appear prima facie plausible. It is also to be noted that a complaint has already been lodged against you at the Lokayukta Police Station, Mysuru, by the petitioner on July 18.”

The notice also stated: “I direct you to submit your response to the allegations made against you within seven days, together with supporting documents explaining why leave to prosecute should not be granted to the applicant against you.”
