NDLEA seeks collaborative action against drug addiction

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has called for more proactive measures to combat drug abuse among students in tertiary institutions in the country.

Mr Ndubuisi Agabus, Keffi Area Commander, NDLEA, Nasarawa State, made the call during an interview with newsmen in Keffi on Thursday.

Agabus, Deputy Narcotics Commander, said drug abuse among students in tertiary institutions in the region had become very worrying.

He said the agency had made enormous efforts to combat drug addiction, dependency and drug trafficking in the region.

“We have made several arrests, conducted awareness programmes and rehabilitated many drug addicts, but the use of illicit drugs continues to increase.

“The situation demands more proactive and collaborative actions from stakeholders, we must work together for the sake of the future generation,” he said.

The NDLEA official said parents had a very important role to play in the campaign against drug abuse and addiction among the youth.

The commander also said the agency was working with management of tertiary institutions in the region to organise anti-drug sensitization campaigns. (NAN)
