Beware of Air Conditioning Scams

Wichita Falls police have issued an alert regarding a possible air conditioning installation scam amid scorching summer temperatures.

Financial crimes detectives have issued an arrest warrant for John Dewayne Hennan, 39, of Iowa Park.

The charge is theft of between $2,500 and $30,000 by false pretenses/fraud/breach of trust.

Police said Hennan had been arrested twice in the past six months on similar charges.

An April 20 arrest report states that a victim said he hired Hennan, owner of Hennan Heat and Air, to work on the air conditioning unit in his home.

The victim said he paid Hennan $3,000, but he did not do any work and stopped communicating with him, according to allegations in the affidavit. A detective spoke to Hennan about the case.

The alert said Hennan said he did not have the money to repay the victim at the time and asked for a one-week extension, but never communicated again.

Hennan was arrested June 24 after a Wichita Falls developer reported losing $14,850 to a scam.

The developer said he was renovating a building at 908 Indiana Ave. in downtown Wichita Falls and gave Hennan a $14,850 down payment for air conditioning work.

The victim said the cashier’s check was cashed, but no work was ever started and Hennan did not answer calls, according to allegations in the affidavit.

Police are warning residents to be wary of scams and asking anyone with information about Hennan’s whereabouts to call Crime Stoppers at 940-322-9888.
