Supreme Court Prosecutor Orders Immediate Investigation into Organized Crime Activities

Supreme Court Prosecutor Georgia Adeilini on Wednesday ordered an immediate investigation into cases involving criminal organizations, money laundering, homicides and other serious crimes linked to mafia networks in Mykonos, other Cycladic islands, as well as in Athens and Thessaloniki. In particular, Adeilini asked the prosecutor in charge of police investigations into organized crime to promptly investigate these serious criminal activities, particularly in Mykonos.

The move follows the recent cold-blooded murder of civil engineer Panagiotis Stathis, who was professionally active on the island, in the northern Athens suburb of Neo Psychiko.

To thoroughly investigate these crimes, Judge Adeilini ordered that all necessary means be used, including the lifting of confidentiality of telephone and other data (bank and tax records, for example). She also asked to be kept informed of the progress of the investigations.
