Man charged over alleged armed robbery in South Tamworth – NBN News

A teenager will appear in court today following an alleged armed robbery at a New England area gas station overnight.

At around 12.40am on Monday, June 24, police received reports that an 18-year-old man had entered the petrol station on Goonoo Goonoo Road in South Tamworth and selected several food items.

When he placed the items on the counter, he allegedly pulled a knife from his pants and threatened the attendant.

A second man then entered the store stealing food items from the shelves.

The two men then left the store, but the 18-year-old returned a short time later to allegedly steal more items, before leaving the gas station.

The attendant was shaken but was not injured during the incidents.

The matter was reported to officers from Oxley Police District, who established a crime scene and began an investigation into the theft.

A short time later, police found the 18-year-old man behind a fence at a nearby property.

He was arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station where he was charged with robbery with an offensive weapon and breaching bail.

He was refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court later today.

Investigations into the fate of the second man continue.

As investigations continue, anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call Tamworth Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
